@cicerone imposter,
You know c.i.. Some would say only God could be responsible for such beauty and some would say it is a product of Darwin's Theory.

@panzade,
There are so much beauty on this planet that humans can enjoy, it's a wonder so many don't travel outside the community in which they were born.

I've been fortunate to have traveled around this world equivalent to 30 times, and I still wish to see more!

On second thought, I wouldn't mind that as my epitaph.

The Bromo Tengger Semeru national park, Indonesia, is named after its two mountains, Mount Semeru (the highest in Java) and Mount Bromo (the most popular), and the Tengger people who inhabit the area.

@vonny,
I grew up a couple of miles from Great Falls. It was a wonderful playground.
Here's a photo of me and my sister looking down on the falls circa 1960

@panzade,
Did'ja really? I've been there and loved it. They even had public concerts in the park. Still, it seemed like your family would still be "strangers in town" unto the third generation. It's technically bigger than Farmington, NM, but has the feel of a very small town.

@saab,
I was just going back through this thread and saw this from Saab

This is nothing spectacular at all. Every time I see a plant breaking the asphalt I find it is a wonder, which - luckely - not even the largest truck can do.

And it made me marvel at how our brains work. Straight away we think the dandelion broke the asphalt - but isn't it more likely something else broke the asphalt and a dandelion seed took root?

@hingehead,
I don't think I've ever know how long dandelion seed can live somewhere - soil or the gravel, if there is gravel, under asphalt. Maybe there was some break from a vehicle and the seed germinated when water got in through the cracks. That's just mulling - interesting.

@ossobuco,
I don't know either. But I've trodden on dandelions and they don't survive - I can't imagine how they break asphalt - not that I have a great imagination.

@hingehead,
Good point.

Maybe they have different dandelions in Europe?

Or worse asphalt?

Meanwhile, here's a photo from the Genoa shoreline -

A waterspout approaches the coastal city of Genoa as thunderstorms and high winds pound the Liguria region of Italy. At right, in the background, is the Costa Concordia cruise liner, which was towed to Genoa for scrapping.

The Bajau of Malaysia fish and dive for almost everything they eat. Some live in houses on the beach or on stilts; others have no homes but their boats.

@hingehead,
We have trees that belongs to the city, and they do constant damage to the street and sidewalks. Our sidewalk in front of our house was in pretty bad shape, but the city finally repaired them last month. Those trees also damage water and sewage pipes, but the city is pretty good about responding to problems and taking care of them. I appreciate our city services; the workers are usually friendly and helpful.
