Not much, really . . . the passage attempts to suggest that one should not be sad that spring is over, because it will be twice as enjoyable next year. There is no good reason to assume that is true, so as a poetic image, it's pretty much a failure. I'm not convinced, and likely would not have much interest in reading any more by this author.
