Not bullshit.

But it's not good to bomb a country flat, and completely **** it up, then make jokes about it having a primitive civilisation.

Yes, I know about the record of the British and French in Iraq.

@McTag,
What joke are you referring to?

In the period I was talking about, 10,000 BCE, all human endeavor was primitive.

@Joe Nation,
There was a thread started on Nov 9 2009 entitled Evolution!!!

The first post by chezymeeez asked "Do you believe in evolution???"

There were replies of the utmost fatuity from djjd62, rosbourne 979, edgarblythe, ebrown p, Merry Andrew and BillRM on Nov 10 2009.

That's it. End of thread.

That's dull. That's how far evolutionists can get when gathered together for a discussion.

It is not what A2K's site owner is looking for.

@JTT,
Ate's right. I t'weren't able to reckon the difference.

BTW the other day I heard a BBC broadcaster say something to the effect of : "The results of the election won't be known for some weeks, you reckon?"

I dropped a fork into the sink drain. Here was the BBC sounding like one of the mountainfolk of Eastern Tennessee. I guess neither group has ever given up the expression, I don't believe I've ever heard anyone say 'reckon' in New York City.

Man get in cab says:
You reckon you can take me to the Statue of Liberty?
Cabbie says:
No!.

I never heard it in Los Angeles, except produced on a movie set.

@Joe Nation,
The BBC has been taken over by feminists and henpecked partners Joe. I watch CBS and Fox pretty regularly and it looks just the same. So does A2K now I come to think about it.

Don't you think that it's a bit insulting to the ladies to reckon that they don't need strong handling?

In the fourth and fifth novels of the Forsyte series, Galsworthy introduces some American characters. He signals their status as Americans by putting "reckon" into every second or third sentence they utter. I'm mystified. I've heard reckon before, but not often, and almost never from educated people--except perhaps in the sense of a reckoning.

In the seventh novel, when the whole series goes to hell, he has an American character whose speech is nothing short of bizarre. Galsworthy would have done well to run his dialogues past an American before he published. It reminds me of a BBC series i saw once with an English actor playing an American, and in the commentary before the show, the presenter (an English woman) remarked how "good" his American accent was. Excuse me . . . it was pathetic. I doubt very much if Americans do any better when trying to do an English accent. C.f. Mel Gibson as Fletcher Christian or William Wallace--he can't do English or Scots.

"reckon" is pretty much Southern in the States. When I lived in Georgia decades ago I heard it there. My sister, who has lived in Australia for the last twenty years, seems to have picked it up there, along with "carpark". "takeaway", and "mobile".
