@H2O MAN,
To be fair, some strategists argue that the new policy will actually increase our safety.
Quote:By changing the policy, the Obama administration
hopes the United States can focus on stopping the spread of atomic weapons to terror groups such as Al Qaeda as well as halt North Korea's nuclear buildup and Iran's nuclear ambitions, Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Tuesday in announcing the new Nuclear Posture Review.
Strategies are always interesting. Will they work, or will they not. The situation is large and complex. Probably only history will tell the tale.
I'm looking forward to seeing how this particular move plays out on the political stage.
@rosborne979,
Seeing how this particular move plays out on the political stage is secondary
to seeing how it plays out with Islamic extremists and radical jihadists.
And lets not forget our strategic allies that depend on us for their protection.
@H2O MAN,
I think you need to look more deeply at the arguments supporting the strategy before condemning it. I'm sure Bob Gates played a big part in this strategy.
I feel Obama's strategy is to eliminate the need
for Americans to use one of these ever again.

Aren't feelings just so much fun
@rosborne979,
Feelings are much more fun than Hope & Change

It appears that the U.S. nuclear "umbrella" may be in the process of becoming a small folding umbrella.
What I find interesting is that the USA now can continue what they did before, namely reducing their antique nuclear weapons, but say it's due to this treaty.
(Any idea, waterman, how many nuclear weapons already are and were reduced - without getting new system - in Europe during the last couple of years???)
@H2O MAN,
Answer Walters question idiot.
@H2O MAN,
I would try to answer your question if I understood it. But as usual i makes no sense.
I was not surprised by H2O MAN's forthcoming diatribe but rather by the lack of coffee stains on his shirt....

@gustavratzenhofer,
Gus, how's the therapy going?
I was cured until I read your stuff.
The fact of the matter is that the genie is definitely out of the bottle. An increasing number of countries will secure the weapons. E.g., Japan is keeping its eye on the armed and hostile N. Korea, and a China that is becoming more forceful. I have little doubt that, in view of this, Japan will soon develop its own nukes. Australia will probably decide to join the club for obvious reasons.
Obama is merely shedding redundant nukes, and retains enough to destroy the world several times. He is dreaming if he thinks that this will encourage Islamic states to abstain from securing nukes.

He's doing more than that, he is also limiting our abilities (when & why) to use our nukes.
