that is certainly my impression of what you like about the place. Not so much the opportunity to contribute, but the ability to have an audience and to get reactions from people. You play to your audience.

@ehBeth,
It is the audience Beth that read the ads. Or is supposed to do. Yes--I do have the audience in mind at all times. The posters I respond to are mostly incorrigible plonkers who I wouldn't give the time of day to on a one to one basis. There are a few exceptions of course and you are one of them.

I think of most posters as springy diving boards on which I can sport. I can't think of any other reason to be on A2K.

@spendius,
When I respond to one of your Trivia posts my intention is to make you laugh or smile or even smirk. If I can't think of a response which might have any of those effects I pass. I do accept that some of the connections I make are a bit far fetched and fanciful but I can assure you that there is a connection somewhere. It's a compliment to the players I think.

@spendius,
As I thought. Incorrigibly self-regarding, and cannot leave off wanking long enough to realize that you actually upset some perfectly decent folk with your self-obsession.

The sensible thing for those who don't enjoy your special brand of posting is to ignore you, but you'd think that you just MIGHT be able to take half a second's thought for people who are distressed by your using them to enjoy yourself, and actually take yourself off and stop harassing them.

Impossible for you, I know....but there it is.

@dlowan,
I can't think of any reason why anyone should be distressed at a few words dwollie. Have you seen what gets said about me? I never indulge in that sort of thing.

Anyway--you said you had me on Ignore.

Was it a sand-bank or not?

@spendius,
It's not me you distress. And I certainly have no intention of responding to your inane mendacious perseverances.

Is it beyond your abilities to have even the tiniest understanding of normal human responses? You see, amongst the humans, words sometimes distress.

Even if you don't get it, perhaps you might be capable of accepting that it is so?

Yes, some people have a go at you back.

Msolga is not one of them. She honours your nastiness by being polite to you.

I think she's nuts to do it, but she is a more considerate and kinder soul than I am.

Anyway, I am not going to continue to be part of what keeps your nastiness going here.

Bye. I'll leave you to simmer in your own juices.

@dlowan,
In dwollie's last three posts, all of which are off topic, she has said " Does he DO non-inane?Ignore the ****** if he wearies you.I do. (Which she didn't), that I'm "Incorrigibly self-regarding" and I can't "leave off wanking" and I'm "self obsessed", that she defines what "ordinary decent folk" means and that they need her protection and that I'm "harassing" them if I take issue with them. That I'm inane again and mendacious and have no understanding of normal human responses as defined by her. That Olga is nice to me. (Oh yeah). I'm nasty and she's leaving me to stew in my own juices.

Very nice. All because I question the hysteria surrounding an event at sea.

The bargain hunter caused the accident. All the little pressures at the check-out being amalgamated and loaded on to the ship's crew. Thousands of ships. And one grounds and out they come horror struck. Something should be done. Offering all sorts of infantile ideas all of which have been known for donkey's years and been taken a chance on to keep prices down deliberately. And taking for their inspiration the news they have read which is now under question according to Bloomberg.

And for telling it like it is I get that lot. And much more. One silly sod threatened to come over here and fill me in.

What a powerful argument for keeping women out of politics or anything else where hysterical ranting chops no chips.

I'm going with Bloomberg that it was a sandbank. And that various interested parties have wound up a section of the population to get them to apply political pressure to buy various items and procedures which might or might not work in the future but will line a lot of pockets whose owners were feeding journalists with what suited them.

Why don't women take over the mining and the transportation and everything else. They seem to know more about it all than we men do. Anybody who says they don't can be put down as above. The world is their oyster. What a way of proceeding.

sandbanks are part of the ecology of The Great Barrier Reef (you know that)

not sure why you think it makes a difference exactly what was hit - the damage to the components of the reef are happening as a result of the oil leak

Bloomberg

Quote:
Chinese Ship Pulled off Reef Will Be Inspected Today

April 13 (Bloomberg) -- The Chinese coal carrier removed from the Great Barrier Reef more than a week after slamming into the Douglas Shoal off Australia’s northeast coast is set to be inspected today, the Queensland state government said.

There is no sign of further oil leaking from the Shen Neng 1, the vessel that slammed into the shoal April 3 on its way to China, Maritime Safety Queensland said in a statement. As much as 4 metric tons of fuel oil spilled from the ship, the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority said last week.

Queensland plans a fivefold increase in penalties for ships involved in oil spills as part of tougher regulation, Premier Anna Bligh has said, while Australia’s Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said the nation may expand the monitoring of vessels.

The Shen Neng 1, which left the Queensland port of Gladstone carrying about 68,000 tons of coal, hit a sandbank after deviating from its planned course, owner Shenzhen Energy Transport Co. said April 8. The ship, refloated late yesterday, was towed to a safe location northeast of Great Keppel Island, Maritime Safety Queensland said in its statement.

Three men were arrested for piloting a different ship, the MV Mimosa, into a restricted area of the reef without permission on April 4, according to the Australian Federal Police.

@ehBeth,
It doesn't make any difference what was hit Beth. I have been dealing with the hysteria surrounding the supposed damage to the 1,600 km long precious reef which it now looks to have been untouched.

The story to me was a media thing and the connections between media and officials in government and agencies and commercial organisations and also the power of media to distort stories to increase the drama and the hysteria as a form of entertainment to attract advertising aimed at bargain hunters who caused the damn thing in the first place but application of pressure to cut corners.

I have often wondered why they like to work in air conditioning...dont they want equality ? Why arent they demanding 50% of the coal mining jobs, the heavy lifting work, digging ditches, or could it be they want selective equality such as 50% of the political positions ? Could it be they want more power, less representation at the coal face...

@Ionus,
Yeah- they mend the roads in the countries that banned the Christian God. I think they are giving it up now mind you. It must be hard work, mentally, shagging a woman who stinks of tarmac and has calloused hands from shovelling 3 inch and down crusher run all day for seven days a week.

Bring back the bonnets.

@spendius,
The problem is quite simple really..if it had of been an all women crew it wouldnt have happened. Why arent there more women doing dirty, physically demanding, lonely, dangerous jobs ?

I would settle for fidelity...but they cant say this is the last man I will have sex with for the rest of my life....they think things like "why should I be faithful? Why should I deny myself ?" They take shortcuts like ships near reefs.

You think it would be slavery for women to work alongside men ? That is not very modern thinking...do you think they should all be in the home ? Or was it fidelity that you object to ?

@Ionus,
All I hear is another misogynist spewing his childish bullshit.
In US, women have caught up and are soon going to be surpassing men in University PhDs in **** like medicine and biological sciences. THeyve closed the gap in professions like law.
As far as your "manly jobs", I work with many women mining engineers who handle hevy equipment like tunneling and boring machines, blasting , and handling EWuks and Drag lines.
Welcome to the 21st century. I can understand spendi, cause he spends most of his time sitting on a basrstool trying to sound sober then he just falls on his face and passes out. AS for you, I know that you get a hard- on over soldiers in combat, do you have your head up your ass so much that you dont see the new world out there. You ever been to Russia or China??

Breaking into song about coal mines and women's labor rights sounds like a great thread Spendi and Ionus! Why don't you go start that one?

The answer is obvious.

Women have long taken more Bachelor degrees, and as of last year started taking more advanced degrees as well. When it comes to schools and jobs the question on the table is "why are men doing so poorly in the competition?"

@farmerman,
Would you listen to the sexist crap sprouting out of you ? Women will be overly represented in the physically easy jobs and you think this is equality ? Are you too blind to see where equality should be taking women without women steering it in directions where men will protect them ?

Welcome to the 21st century, fossil. Women ARE equal, but they are selecting how to be equal...a little equality here, but not there...that looks too hard...and fools like you cite exceptions as the rule.

Do you have your head up the arse of your sheep so far you cant see it is an emotional piece of rubbish by some women to get power over other women ? Women's movement..I like that...it sounds like a pet shat on the carpet. I know you get a hard-on over women saying what a lovely boy you are for towing the line but try to think for once in your pathetic little existence rather than follow everyone else.
