@Cyracuz,
More bs about what might possibly be in the future. Why dont we shut down all health care facilities so we can be sure not to lose any of our liberties. Fear mongering by the conseratives!

@rabel22,
Why should health care come at the expense of liberties?

Your lack of knowledge and understanding is most impressive... are all liberals like you?

@H2O MAN,
Not so impressive if you consider that I live across the sea. Here in Norway health care when I need it does not require me to surrender any basic human rights. There are laws to protect us from poverty, and it is my right as a norwegian citizen to be provided for by the government if I cannot do it myself for some reason.

Water man was refering to me. And you would have to ask a conserative why health care would affect liberty. Their the ones claiming this.

@rabel22,
Oh yes, you are right that he was referring to you.. That's what you (I) get for replying without reading properly first.. My apologies.

But I still don't see why health care should affect liberty

@Cyracuz,
Depends on what kind of liberty. After all, I can drive ten miles down the road and bet hundreds or thousands of dollars on whatever games they offer. I can't be forced to gamble and I can't be prohibited to gamble

This year, I can gamble on bad health by buying insurance. I can also choose to gamble on good health by keeping my money in my pocket. Four years from now, I am forced to gamble on the bad health side of the bet, unless I choose to pay a fine instead. Paying the fine is equivalant to betting on double O at roulette. It's an automatic loser as the tables only have two zeros.

Alright, I lied. I am already on Medicare and don't have to play. Just trying to explain how liberty got involved. I do agree with your opening post. Terrorism isn't much of a substitute for democracy.

Why is it that Muslims in USA have the right to deny a national health insurance because it is the same as gamling, when in Europe they do accept it. They even have to accept it as health insurance is paid over taxes or direct over your salary or you have to have a private insurance.
How about car insurance, house insurance and other insurances that we people have? Are they not just as much gambling?

@roger,
As I see it, the welfare of each individual is a social responsibility shared by all. We expect individuals to see to themselves, but if they cannot for any reason, the community has a responsibility to act.
Our freedom as invividuals is not restricted by this responsibility. It is a result of this responsibility.

@Cyracuz,

The way I see it, the individual has the responsibility to be socially acceptable without any assistance from the government.
Friends, family and the "community" can step in and help any individual in need if they wish but they can not be forced to do so by any government.

@H2O MAN,
No one is being forced to do anything. But there are people who work with this and earn their living by helping others take control of their lives. They are government employees, and they work with the people who need help on an individual basis. Together the person who needs it and the government employee determine what is needed and how to proceed towards helping him take control. Whatever is needed will be provided, be it money or education, medical treatment, psychological treatment or even a car, if the circumstances dictates the need for one.

@Cyracuz,
The more you make the masses dependent on government services the worse conditions get.

And yes, the government does force people to do what they want them to do.

Less government = less government employees and that's a good thing.

Yes, that must be why our country is the wealthiest in the world, at the top of the list when it comes to health care, the country in the world with the lowest murder rates...

This is from wikipedia's article about Norway:
Quote:
The standard of living in Norway is among the highest in the world. Foreign Policy Magazine ranks Norway last in its Failed States Index for 2009, judging Norway to be the world's most well-functioning and stable country.

So yea, it's pretty bad here, and from where I'm sitting everything you say makes perfect sense...

And by the way, unemployment rates has been steady at under 4% for as long as I care to remember...

@Cyracuz,
Norway has an estimated population of: 4,644,457
The population of the United States is about: 308,994,736

We have 3x more illegal aliens receiving tax payer funded benefits
than you have citizens in your entire country. There is no comparison.

That's kind of high... maybe we could send Obama to Norway and have him fundamentally change your country for the better.

@H2O MAN,
Not sure I agree. More people and more area equals more resources. The key difference is perhaps in the different value systems that lie at the foundations of our respective governments. Most americans I've talked to think we are about as socialist as they come and can't seem to understand how we abide by it.

@Cyracuz,

So you understand how Norway's system would never work here in the US.

Our founding fathers new this country would grow fast and that is just one
of the many good reasons they made a point to just say no to a democracy.

@Cyracuz,
Many Americans donĀ“t know the "fine" difference between a socialist and a social democrat. Liberal in America is often a four letter word whereas in most of Europe it means a person who is open minded and in between a republican and a democrat.
