Probably not. I'm not hostile to the concept of community, but at the same time, the community doesn't suffer if i don't exercise the options which other members of the community want.

Both the Wabbit's response and yours seem to assume that i think the feature should go away. I haven't said anything of the kind. I was only speaking for myself, and saying that i found it meaningless, and that

i suspect that many people who vote down posts do so because they don't want to have to see them. For myself, i'm perfectly able to ignore posts or person without programming assistance.
Yes; that 's the reason that I do so.

thus eliminated from a2k for a huge chunk of the readership,
the exact fraction not known because robbert has not told us,
but likely the majority. Most sites run about 50/50 non registered lurkers
and registered, and registered can and presumably do collapse low rated threads and posts.
If thay desire to arrange their relationship to the community that way and if Robert offers the option,
then thay have a right to arrange their settings accordingly.

I have mine set to retain full individual control
qua collapsing posts.

I 'm pretty sure that some of the members don 't like my posts
because of my pro-freedom opinions; thay shoud not have my posts forced on them.

That's two of us.

Make that three.
I will do so upon my earnest judgment
of the merits of that post.

Huh?

That's what the PM function is for, to keep private stuff off
the open threads which are accessible to the entire planet Earth and
probably to some other planets as well.
That seems unlikely; thay r too far away, unless we use the larger fonts.

Personally, I don't feel that way about you at all, High Seas. I really do not want to see you leave. I think it's important to have someone who is as ignorant as you, someone who is so willing to fabricate as you, posting around here.

Rama must have tied you in knots. Can you bring up that golden oldie for us?

You really are an unpleasant person, JTT. Yuck.

Yeah; he 's actively hostile to competent reasoning too.
Presumably, he is against math because of its logical accuracy
(tho I 've never asked him that). He is cast out by my Ignore button.

@Mame,
I think that the "broken clock is right twice a day" thingie applies here.

You don't have to like JTT to realize that s/he/it's correct about some things.

I've been following along for 13 pages and it finally clicked when Thomas mentioned bullies.
This thread would have been better titled Bullies, Trolls and Trolling Behaviour msolga. IMO

Trolls are easy to spot and easier to ignore. Troll behaviour is hard to define because one man's troll behaviour is another man's lucid riposte.

But the biggest cause of thread buggering is verbal bullying and the Usual Suspects come to mind. These are the alpha-dogs who mark their territory by pissing on threads with bullying posts. Are there any female bullies? I can't think of one. Perhaps you can.
It's difficult for me to ignore the alpha-dogs because some of them are truly brilliant and I hesitate to block them out totally.

A2K is very much like a schoolyard. Perhaps if we worked harder to police ourselves to stop bullying we could improve the forum.
All I'm suggesting is that when you see bullying you post right away to denounce it. It can only help those threads that are fragile.
