WVU 69 Washington 56. Defense wins with rebounds.
I am now ranked 3500 out of the 50000 or so players on the NYTimes site.

Only Osso still has a chance at getting the eventual tourney champ with her pick of Ohio State.

I found some left over notes from yesterday that had gotten buried.
Going into the Sweet 16 last night, teams from 11 different conferences were still in the chase. Why? The big reason is that really good players who go to teams in the traditionally powerful conferences (ACC, SEC, Big 10 etc) hang around for a year or so and then go pro, leaving those teams decimated. Players for less glamorous schools but with good coaching get to develop their players from 18 or 19 years old through 22.
Unrelated to that, perhaps, is a disturbing stat regarding graduation rates from college of basketball players. Something like 40% - excluding those who left school to turn pro. Amongst black players, the number is more like 20%.
I saw a stat about how many teams would be excluded from NCAA tourney action if the required rate was marginally higher than 40%. I have misplaced that, but it was a lot.
Play on.

Despite the devastating loss of Syracuse, thank you very much Orangemen!!

I'm back to 3rd place again.

@tsarstepan,
It would help our cause, tsarstepan, if Duke would win and Ohio State would fall to Purdue. We have to prevent Osso from the potential to rack up a lot of points.

Inasmuch as that loss increases the chances that K-State will make it to the Final Four, I was pleased to see it.

I can't believe I'm relegated to rooting for Kansas State ... but what an awesome game that was last night!

In other news, I am in 28,292nd place ... but ahead of the Canadian contingent in our group (whew).

@ossobuco,
Hey! I lived in Ohio (Dayton) a couple of times. Between a few months and until I was about five, and for my twelveth summer. I can work up some hope..

Poor ebeth. She has so little left in her bracket remaining point wise. She's a lock for dead last.
