@djjd62,
I seem to have cooked my goose.
@djjd62,
We look forward to your wisdom, djjd62.
@ossobuco,
I'm dead in the water. Well, I'll follow the thread anyway.
Oh, wait, maybe I could use another email address.
Will test this.
@ossobuco,
Dellapace is dead, long live ossobuco. But, is this game limited as to players? I would hope I'm not taking another's place. This time I picked through....
Duke strikes me as vastly over-rated. They barely got by a mediocre UVA team in the ACC Tourney. They will run into Baylor or Villanova.
@realjohnboy,
Oh, well. I remember back when.. besides, I TOLD you I know nothing at all.
@realjohnboy,

They really only have three players. I wouldn't be suprised to see them knocked out in the sweet sixteen.
I've made my picks, btw. May the best A2k'r win.

can they play with only three players
won't they get tired
I see I'm confused re thread replying.
Is the yahoo thread still happening?
@ossobuco,
don't think so, seems like everybody's at tsar's thread
@ossobuco,
No. We are on the NY Times game.
I think, osso, you can click on Dellaspace and then, over on the right, delete that team. I think.
@ossobuco,
Well, that took a while - for me to figure out I needed to log out and then in again - but I got rid of dellapace.

Okay. We are using the NY Times site this year. All you have to do is go to Tsar's link, register (painless and free) and then pick through the games. All the way through to the end when one team remains standing. It can take as little as a couple or 3 minutes if you, like me, know virtually nothing about college b-ball.
The deadline is around 7 PM ET (I suspect) on Thursday, March 18th, when the first games begin.
Remember that you have to pick all the way through to the end in one sitting.
You can go back to the Times' site after each day to see how you are doing or check back here for updates.
Please join us so that you can smugly say at the water cooler: "Of course, I had (Team A)." Or, smirking, "(Team B) was way over-rated."
We are now up to 6 players with about 48 hours until the 1st tip-off. I see, however, that "Swimpy" only picked in round 1. Perhaps you could pm her/him and get the rest of the picks.
Still time for more players to join.
@realjohnboy,
Swimpy hasn't picked any teams yet. I'm still cogitatin'. Great picks can't be rushed. (and besides I don't have any clue. I may go with djjd's apporach.)
@realjohnboy,
That's what I had trouble with - maybe it was just me. The system didn't let me add further picks, so I had to log in on another email account.
Very good, Swimpy. We look forward to your wisdom. Tico just joined.
I was looking at the NYTimes rules for the game; particularly the scoring. Next time I run a game where I set the rules for awarding points, I will take a cue from them and add a bunch of 0000's.
5 points for each game correctly picked in the 1st round.
10 points for a correct pick in the 2nd round.
20 points for a right decision in the 3rd round (the Round of 16).
40 points for choosing well in the 4th round (the Regional Finals).
80 points for successfully picking in the 5th round (the Final Four).
160 points for picking correctly in the 6th round (the Championship).
This is clever. We also get a few bonus points if we predict an upset (i.e. where a lower seeded team beats a higher seeded team. You get points equal to the difference in the teams' seeding. For example, I have Georgia Tech (seeded 10th) against Oklahoma State (#7) in Round 1. If Tech wins, I get the 5 points + a 3 point bonus because Tech was seeded lower.
@ossobuco,
Ah, good. You'll avoid the technical foul I ran into.
