@tsarstepan,
I was here for a lecture... does this mean if the professor isn't here I can skip class?

@Seed,
Seed. The rule of thumb is ... If your professor hasn't arrived...
wait 15 minutes for a professor and 30 minutes for a doctor then you can leave.

@tsarstepan,
Ya ever been in one of those classes where the professor is there, but doesn't introduce him/herself, wants to see how the different students react - who walks out - who tries to organize the class ....

love them

not so much

@tsarstepan,
This is familiar from my school days. Now I picture a large classroom with tiered seating being relatively quiet, everyone texting or online.

Kinda spooky to me, in my imagination.

@ossobuco,
I can imagine that 1/3 the class is text messaging people outside the class, a 1/4 of the class is watching some video's on youtube. Split the remainder of the class in half: half of this group is sleeping while the other half is respectful and diligent to the professor and her or his lecture. Even participating when prompted.

I guess that's the trend these days.

@ehBeth,
Freshman year in college. Biology 101. Sat in the front row because it was the only way I would stay awake for the 8 am class. It was 8:10 and the professor hadn't shown up yet. I was still in my PJ pants and told the guy next to me, that if the professor didn't show up soon, I was gonna go to sleep on the floor and he could teach the class with me snoring through the whole lecture.

Yea turned out he was the professor and made sure the rest of the semester that I never fell asleep

I'm working as a temp at a law firm. Right now, I'm helping them archive their files from one of their class action lawsuits (asbestos litigation).
