For sure I'm no historian but reading this morning kinda struck me. It seems Harry S Truman felt the Korean War (police action) was so important to the USA and the free world that the cost of the war was in his budget and he reduced domestic spending by %25 to pay for it. This appears to be in contrast to Bush 43 who did not include the Iraq war in the budget and, in fact, increased domestic spending/ear marks without restraint.
Perhaps someone here can correct my historical errors in this regard.

In Truman's day folks were expected to pay for what they wanted.

They did not have credit cards and the like back then...
