Joni Mitchell and Willie Nelson did a beautiful rendition of "Water", the old western song.
And Toots Hibbert did a "Toots in Memphis" album some years ago with great raggae covers of "I Can't Stand the Rain", "I've Got Dreams to Remember", Love and Happiness" and several others.

There is a movie coming out about the 1970's girl band, The Runaways. Here is their cover of "Wild Thing":

Ohhh.... Leon Russell. He was one of my dad's friends. What an amazing musician and nice guy. It's great to see that others remember Leon. (Side note: "Sweet Emily" once drove me and my cat to the vet in Leon's limo.)
Here's a great cover: Joe Cocker singing "The Letter" with Leon on piano..
"Ring of Fire" - by Johnny Cash
"Starlight" -by Muse
"One" -by U2
"Feelin' Good" -by Sammy Davis, Jr.
"Satisfaction" -by The Rolling Stones

@Rockhead,
I never even knew it was sung by anyone but Cash! But ever since the first time I heard "Hurt", I fell in love with the sincere way he sings it, as if he lives and suffers through every word. I am positive that Nine Inch Nails can never accomplish that.

Oooh, plus this one is the best cover that completely saves a hideous song & turns it into something beautiful.
I absolutely despise Miley Cyrus' voice, and these guys have transformed her song into ear candy.
I too got to meet Leon, back in 1975 when our band opened for him and New Grass Revival at The Birchmere in Alexandria Virginia.
Backstage, he was a spooky type of fella , at the time all wrapped in his "Hank Wilson" country star-Nudie suit persona.
Speaking of covers, his Nawleans piano lick kicks off Johnny Rivers remake of Rockin Pneumonia Boogie Woogie Flu by Huey "Piano" Smith. Leon smokes this tune

@RadAndRandom,
Welcome to A2K Rad. The "Tainted Love" nugget was unearthed by Eorl, to my continuing edification.
