@plainoldme,
That was the father of the bride, giving her away. The serialized story on BBC had a very complicated plot. The father of the bride is the owner of some small-time casino in Blackpool, England. David Morrissey is the actor playing the casino owner. David Tennant plays a police detective investigating the activities of the casino owner and his teenage son. The young daughter is getting married to an older man who was a childhood friend of the father. The police detective is balking at arresting the casino owner because the police detective has fallen in love with the casino owner's wife (the mother of the bride). Every character in the story has a secret that they are trying to hide.

They don't make musicals like that anymore. Smile

@wandeljw,
Wow! That is complicated. The problem with just watching that small piece is that actor playing the father of the bride was too young! He needed some make-up to age him!

@plainoldme,
Here is another song covered in the BBC "Blackpool" mini-series. BBC original programs are very creative.

The cast of the movie "My Best Friend's Wedding" did a rousing version of "I Say A Little Prayer For You."

Teddy Pendergrass was the first to record "Don't Leave Me This Way." Thelma Houston recorded her famous disco version one year later.

I was never a fan of Creedance Clearwater Revival and I hate John Fogarty's voice. However, Fogarty has written some terrific songs and others have (mercifully) recorded them.

One of those others is the highly talented, humorous, talkative and not as well known as he should Tom Snider. Ignore Tom's statement about his talkativeness in the beginning and listen to the sound of his rough yet velvet vocals and his conversation of Fortunate Son into a ballad:

Listen Scots super guitarist and traditional singer Dick Gaughan do justice to the Rolling Stones' Ruby Tuesday.

In his slowed version, you will hear and feel the lyrics.

Besides, for a homely man, he is goddamned sexy when he intones in that authentically Celtic way!

Here is the ultimate "cover." The Australian group, Axis of Awesome, proves that all pop music is based on four chords:

A very good acappella group called "Straight No Chaser" does great covers. Here is their cover of Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours":
