@panzade,
Better is debatable for this song, different for sure.
A western swing or maybe a bluegrass shuffle.

This is the Berea College Bluegrass Ensemble doing, "The L & N Don't Stop Here Anymore." Some one commented that it is the best version of the song s/he ever heard.

The singer is amazing.

British singer Clare Torry created the wordless vocals for Great Gig in the Sky on the original Dark Side of the Moon album. For live concerts, Pink Floyd usually used a trio of female vocalists. The women in this video are Sam Brown, Vera McBroom and Durga McBroom.

This LP should be in everybody's library. Jerry Garcia was a very accomplished banjo player.

Has anyone heard the latest recording from Mark Cohn, Listening Booth: 1970? The album consists of songs from 1970. One of the standouts is his version of the much covered, "The Letter," originally by the Box Tops, which Cohn does in a bluesy style. It and the rest of the recording are worth checking out . . . then buying.

Another great offering from the same recording is his cover of Paul Simon's The Only Living Boy in New York, which he does as a softly spun ballad, while his version of After Midnight adds a Caribbean beat.

@plainoldme,
The Only Living Boy was impressive; some choices were baffling. Cover albums are hard to pull off. He gave it a good shot.

While traditional music really isn't "covered" per se, this version of "Black is the color" by the late Nina Simone is powerful:

Vanessa Paradis has been a popular singer in France since the age of 14. She is also the girlfriend of actor Johnny Depp and the mother of his two children. She does a cover of Lou Reed's Walk on the Wlld Side.

I don't remember whether I ever posted these two terrific versions of Gethsemane from Jesus Christ Superstar. The singers have both appeared in the musical and both have amazing voices. The men are a generation apart in age. Steve Balsamo might be considered a baritone while Colm Wilkinson is definitely a tenor. Both sing with emotion and conviction.

Jill Johnson is a Swedish singer who sounds incredibly authentic doing American country music.

"The Flower Duet" from an 1898 French opera was transformed by Yanni into an extravagant music piece called "Aria."

Pachelbel's Canon in D Major was composed in 1680.

In 1998, an alternative rock version was recorded by Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
