If someone says flat out: "I have herpes." Is there anyway that one can talk their way out of it? Anyway story you can come up with would be great. Please note, I'm not trying to talk my way out of it personally, I'm writing a screenplay. :-)

The most common symptoms of genital herpes include:

* Tingling
* Itching
* Redness

These are usually followed by one or more of the following:

* Localised chafing
* A distinct rash
* Small cracks in the skin
* Tiny sores
* Blisters that burst and become painful ulcers

could be a reaction brought on by to having sex outside someplace.

@Muarck,
Which person is talking (his/her) way out of it, the one who hears the news or the one who explained having herpes? (I have a friend who is recently going through this. This friend has huge anger and still likes the guy, while angry. No, I am not "the friend".)

Given it's the second, is there an expectation whatever changed explanation would be believed? Is the herpes the truth?
given it's the first, there are many avenues, including sudden diarrhea/food poisoning - needing to check email - needing to stop at the store before it closes, bla bla.

There is the possibility of having a genuine talk about this, but that doesn't seem to be your story direction.
Is this a romantic comedy?

@Muarck,
The laboratory returned the wrong test results to the doctor, perhaps? All that grief & misery for nothing!

If it was a woman who said: "I have herpes" she could retract it by explaining that it is a line she's using to get rid of intrusive suitors.

@CalamityJane,
Good thinking, Jane. To repulse "unwanted advances!" Very Happy

@Rockhead,
No not me, Rocky. This is for a script (I think?).

And Jane's suggestion makes sense to me in that context.

Some people may have it for a long time and never know it. It can be transmitted through other ways simply than through sexual contact.
