@AbbieMcKenley,

A lot of the Cornish don't like to think of themselves as part of England, more another country in the United Kingdom, which is amusing.

It's really quite understable. Like Wales, Cornwall is basically British, not Anglo-Saxon, and never has been Anglo-Saxon. The dialect they speak is very distinct from standard English. I think of the Cornish as being closer to the Scots than to the English.

@Merry Andrew,

MPs have rejected a bid to allow people to list their nationality as "Cornish" on the 2011 census.
There will be no tick box for people to put their nationality as "Cornish" on the next census, set to be carried out on 27 March 2011.

No one else see's it that way.

You'd be hard pushed to find a cornishman... or woman, who'll happily give themselves a nationality of English. Nope, definatly Cornish Smile

Mass is a catholic church service

RI stands for Rotary International or the Robotics Institute

@djjd62,
Mass is short for Massachusetts, a state on the eastern seaboard of the U.S.
RI, short for Rhode Island, which to me means where JJorge, an a2ker, hails from.
Miss, short for Mississippi, which is the name of both a river and a southern U.S. state.

Well the US Post office streamlined the state abbreviations awhile back.

MASSACHUSETTS MA
MICHIGAN MI
MINNESOTA MN
MISSISSIPPI MS
MISSOURI MO

@ossobuco,
I remember some big intersection -- but which? Was it Wilshire? Sepulveda and something. A field of poinsettias. I was probably seven, which would have been around '48 or '49.

My pinpointing may be off.
