When you're in any sort of contest, as you proceed through each step successfully, usually the stakes (winnings) become higher and higher so that if you win often enough to stay in the game until the end - they call that 'the big money round'- where if you win, you win a lot of money- 'big money (but on the other hand, if you lose- you lose the chance to win a lot of money).

@aidan,
I understood a bit but not completely clear .

I reminds me a TV program 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire' where quiz questions are asked ..and for each questions your money will be doubled ...and for wrong there will be penalty by decrement.

I think you mean the same...but when you say 'big money round' ...do you refer to the maximum prize money when one answers all correctly ? alternatively ,what is this 'big money round' ?

'Round' is a name for a stage in the game. The 'big money round' is the stage in the game when the large prize is won or lost, or if one in being metaphorical, the stage in some proceedings in which success or failure is likely.

Not exactly, the last round (not each round) gets you the big money, and you have to win all the rounds before that.
