@MMarciano,
The solution is start your own Octoberfest that's better organized, and don't charge a cover, but sell the beer. That's what they do in Chicago, and they do a bang-up job to boot with good music.

Finally succumbed to the adverts and tried some last night. It's pretty good.

Scientists often do things that aren't really asked for by us regular folks. I'm assuming that this project might qualify for an Ig Nobel.

How had I not responded to this thread earlier?

The 'best beer in the world,' currently, is Pliny the Younger, made here in CA.

I have had this beer, and it is an amazingly tasty beer.

Tico was right earlier to post Stone IPA, it's a sure winner. But probably not better than the local champ here in the Bay Area - Racer 5:

This is an exceptional beer, floral, tasty, and downright delicious.

I also have a warm spot in my heart for past World Beer champ, Delirium Tremens:

Remarkable you should so nominate, Cy

My No. 2 Son and myself an well as a few friends of the assertive brew might concur wholeheartedly

Amazingly. We haven't yet scored it but here's how the Elder rates:

Pliny the Elder Ale, Ca 5.0/8.1; 4.8/8.8; 9.5/8.1

..my No. 2 Son and I on a nonlinear scale of 10 where 5.0 is excellent

The Greater Southwest Beer-Tasting Society would agree:

Quote:

Stone IPA, Ca 6.1/7.6; 3.0/6.9; 7.9/6.9; 5.5/8.0; 5.3/8.2

…...positively phenomenal

It's from Russian River brewing co., and man, is it hard to get! Even around here, it's difficult to find on tap and bottles simply fly off the shelf. They don't make much of it.

Pliny the Elder is also quite good and it's more available, you might be able to get some around your area, I've heard it's nationally available.

By coincidence Cy one of our charter members by the sheerest chance visiting with us tonight advises that it's almost impossible to find in the bottle, that you've got to go to a special beer-tasting place where it's only on tap though not always available at all

@dalehileman,
Yeah, I've only seen it in the bottle once. Didn't buy it at that time as I didn't know what it was! Colossal mistake.

Had some new beers over the weekend: Hitachino Nest Weizen and Red Rice beer.

Both pretty good, nice examples of the Japanese brewing style, paired great with the chicken dinner I was eating. Not so good that I would order either on a regular basis, but definitely worth checking out!

You mind if I turn this thread into sort of a running beer journal for a while? I drink a lot of different beers and I've been thinking about getting into rating and tracking them a bit more.

If you like I could always start a different thread...

This is a popular strip in Viz. I'm not saying for one minute that any of the contibutors to this thread, (including me), are anything like this, but I bet we've all met people like this. I certainly have.

To the contrary the dialogue sounds very much like that of the GSBTS. However we conduct most of our tastings in a jacuzzi

@dalehileman,
For all lovers of liquor and caffeine drinks. Read "The History of the World In Six Glasses." It also has a section on "beer."
