Bought a 4-pack of this stuff for my weekend: Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout

That's some seriously good chit. Highly recommended if you like stout.

@panzade,
That's a mighty tough division these days. I expect the Seattle brews will make their case.

I never seen it before stumbling on Cannibal, a famous meat centric restaurant with a renown beer collection. In fact, I bought two bottles that night. One Faro, the other ... Lindemans Gueuze Cuvée René which I'm drinking now.

From what I read, Gueuze is also called Belgium Champagne... hence the specialized bottling.

Got a question for all you beer experts. How long is beer good for in the can and/or bottle? Does temperature count for longevity?

@cicerone imposter,
Six months and it's starting to perish.

Don't refrigerate beer until you're ready to drink it.

It's a living product, until you chill it.

Yeah, not bad so far. Palmer's injury doesn't help, though. I was able to attend the Eagles game a few weeks ago. Great game. Wish we'd bet on it.

PS, did you ever send me my cigars?

It also depends on the type of brew. Your run-of-the-mill adjunct lagers and most beers should be be consumed within 4-6 months. That's why many have a "best by" date on them. Certain beers can be cellared for lengthy periods, and their flavor and complexity will improve with the aging, such as barleywines and imperial stouts. Hoppy beers, like IPAs, should be consumed quickly and not cellared.

@cicerone imposter,
I keep my beer out of any temperature swings, and never in the sun. I find no need to refrigerate it immediately. I cool it maybe a day before I'm ready to drink it. My preference is that I never buy it in cans. I think 6 months is about the limit but that is because of no scientific reason. The beer I buy has no preservatives (I know of).

Back to the beeah tasting, on a different note:
I've recently tried the new premium Guinness Blonde American Lager. For personal reasons ($10/ sixpk), I'd like to no like it. It is very delightful red-amber and just the right balance. I've had 2 six-packs in the last 3 weeks and thoroughly enjoyed it.

It has a slightly citrusy characterisitc note...Fashioned after the American pale lager ale tradition of the 1930s...it has a 'unique biscuit malt' influence.
Their label says it's a fusion and cooperative effort with the Latrobe PA brewery. Their select hops come the northwest US, the yeast from Ireland and (I assume) filtered water from Latrobe, PA.

@Ragman,
Furthermore , I like it a bit more than my previous fave, the Sierra Nevada Torpedo Extra IPA.

Guinness (mother conglomerate Diageo) is responding to the migration over to craft beers...due to the increase 17% up in sales since 2013, while overall beer sales is down nearly 2%. They are introducing with this lighter brew, a Discovery Series. I guess more brews to come.

Sorry, that should have been 'golden amber'.

My impression:

Its a bit on the hoppy side (in a good way). Its alcohol content is 5.1%, which makes it taste a bit fuller due to its 'pinpoint' carbonation. While I like it fine right now, it'll not be my 'go-to' all time fave beer. Sierra Nevada Torpedo IPA has still got that honor.

Beer (consumer) taster's impressions:
"The aroma contains lager yeast, caramelized malts, honey, some citrus and a touch of hops.""

"The taste starts out sweet with flavors of honey and citrus. Then some breadiness comes in from lager yeast and a hearty but not too heavy malt character. The hops presence is very mild and brings some balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet and slightly bready."
