Run, rabbit run.
Dig that hole, forget the sun,
And when at last the work is done
Don't sit down it's time to dig another one.

You have aircon I presume? Its a hot windy and dirty day outside.

Be happy you are inside in the airconditioning.

Morning, Deb.

Sorry that you have to work today while the rest of us are slacking off. And what a day to work! Hot, hot, hot! Agh. Shocked

I thought you deserved some flowers for this super-duper, above & beyond-the-call-of-duty effort. But when I chose them they were all red & orange ... awful, awful! Inducing inferno feelings!

So, my dear, hear are some cooling, soothing flowers. (Not all that long to go at work, I hope?)

For you:

Here's a word of encouragement... (I think)...
If there is a God out there, he too will be working on New Year's Eve:

All round us departments are shut.

I got a carpark INCHES from the place.

Outside, people are off to the beach, having icecreams, iced coffees, generally having FUN goddammit.

Any cheery thoughts?
I 'd heard that Austrailians got both long paid vacations,
in addition to plenty of holidays like New Year's Day and maybe like New Year's Eve ?

And they need you and you're doing important things to make the new year better for people who really need a better year.

Thank you.

@dlowan,
well, with any luck you'll be home for your New Years, just as I'm arriving for work on New Years Day here. Just think of that - you'll be celebrating or snoozing or something while I'm trying to make it to the end of the work day.

Aussies get paid so much money they don't need the work on holidays.

I could be at HOME in the damn air conditioning!

Actually, this is the first year I have had air conditioning that works since I got here. Last year, in the weeks long over 40 heatwave, most of us had none at all.

@msolga,
Awwwww.....lovely.

This thread is mostly a joke...but I DO get a bit annoyed about how many people are made to work here over the christmas/new year period.

We take it in turns, but they pretty much make half the team work, even if you are not rostered on for Intake or Crisis Response.

Naturally, we need enough people here in case there is a big drama, involving lots of kids....however, the numbers they insist on are plain silly. We could do it with quarter of the team, not half. Hell, I'd be happy to be on call.

I think our very rigid business manager is still operating on decisions made when the staff numbers were less than half what they are now. I am going to raise it, as I think more people could have a bit of a break than are getting it, and people are stuffed.

@OmSigDAVID,
Yeah...we had people prepared to band together and struggle for yeears to get those things. Most of the western world has them, too, for the same reason.

You guys have lousy holidays, but you'd need to acknowledge the need for collective action if you wanted to improve things.

Our office is supposed to open New Year's Eve, but the manager quietly allowed us the day off. She's a dear.

@boomerang,
My clients are weird! They keep turning up.

Lots of families just stop all appointments this time of year...this year there have been more coming for most people. Usually, I am all alone in the place we see people, as reception is terminated, and most people have had a client break.

I just saw my last kid for 2009 though!
