I have about 10 Angels in a 55 gal tank. I know its hard to tell their sex but will they ever lay eggs and will they actually hatch for me if I keep them all together?

@ronn333,
I have a friend who breeds angels.

I think they must be paired off to breed, they can be aggressive.

gonna be there tomorrow, I will ask him for some details.

(i do know they can be kinda tough to breed)

I think robert mentioned having angels once, too.

I bred them. They are tedious to breed....but satisfying.
Eventually I switched to another cichlid...a mouth breeder.

Issues with breeding angel fish are:

keeping the right temp constant throughout the tank

finding a suitable flat rock that mommy will lay eggs on

keeping mommy from eating the eggs

separating daddy after he has fertilized the eggs

feeding the fry(babies)

keeping mommy from eating the fry

pshew...a lot of work

mouth breeders are easier...at the first sign of danger the fry scoot into mamas mouth for safety.

@Rockhead,
convicts are easy to breed. I like the pink and the grey.
Oscars are brutal in the fish waste dept....a lot of fun rock

Talked to the VW guy today. (also a fish breeder)

he has about 6 or 7 large angels in a 50 gallon tank.

he puts a piece of slate (about 1/4" thick and 3 x 15") in the tank at an angle.

the fish will clean it and lay their eggs on it.

he then removes it from the tank, and puts it in a gallon glass jar with an aerator.

when they hatch, he feeds them brine shrimp.

said it was near impossible to sex them to pair them up.

good luck...
