All through November, we write out a thing daily that we're thankful for. (We have a four year-old and a six year-old, if that helps you make sense of it.)

Some of my items:

Family
indoor plumbing
electricity
antibiotics
environmental controls (A/C, heating)
antiseptics
the printing press
the internal combustion engine
the scientific method

Thank you to life, which has given me so much.
It gave me two beams of light, that when opened,
Can perfectly distinguish black from white
And in the sky above, her starry backdrop,
And from within the multitude
The one that I love.

Thank you to life, which has given me so much.
It gave me an ear that, in all of its width
Records" night and day"crickets and canaries,
Hammers and turbines and bricks and storms,
And the tender voice of my beloved.

Thank you to life, which has given me so much.
It gave me sound and the alphabet.
With them the words that I think and declare:
“Mother,” “Friend,” “Brother” and the light shining.
The route of the soul from which comes love.

Thank you to life, which has given me so much.
It gave me the ability to walk with my tired feet.
With them I have traversed cities and puddles
Valleys and deserts, mountains and plains.
And your house, your street and your patio.

Thank you to life, which has given me so much.
It gave me a heart, that causes my frame to shudder,
When I see the fruit of the human brain,
When I see good so far from bad,
When I see within the clarity of your eyes…

Thank you to life, which has given me so much.
It gave me laughter and it gave me longing.
With them I distinguish happiness and pain"
The two materials from which my songs are formed,
And your song, as well, which is the same song.
And everyone’s song, which is my very song.

Thankful for my youngest son whose love is unconditional

Thankful for the ability to have a voice and the ability to express it

Thankful for friendship " knowing I have unconditional friendships

Thankful for knowing that no matter what, someone somewhere is holding my hand when I reach out

Thankful that I believe in hope

Thankful for my camera thru which I see the world a different way

Thankful to be able to walk in the woods, feel the spray of the sea on my face, see green all around me.

Thankful to be able to see, and to see colour.

Thankful to be able to hear the river and birds, to hear.

Thankful that I am able to live rather than just being alive

Thankful that I know I am loved

Thankful to feel strength

I'm thankful for a lot of things, but the one thing that at the moment I am most thankful for is that I only have to see my stupid bitch sister-in-law during the holidays and not the other 350+ days of the year.

Thankful for the (literal) gifts of Thanksgiving this year: a smoked turkey, a large ham, a watermelon, and a cake.

Thankful that our dogs ate so much food yesterday that their bellies are distended, and one of them pooped on the carpet while we slept, with equally distended bellies.

Im thankful for being home for the holidas for the first time in almost 4 years. And for moving back to NC and loving that I made the decision to move back. I am thankful for my best friend who helped me move at the drop of a hat even though it involved a 4 hour flight and then a 15 hour drive.

last night I watched the HBO rock and roll hall of fame 25th anniversary show and it was so joyous I was practically in tears. I realized at that moment and thought of this thread that I am most thankful for music. It has brought joy, comfort, inspiration, it has given me an outlet for my feelings and allowed me to connect with other people in a special way. It has been my mistress, sometimes to my detriment but always there for me and never disappointing me. Can't say the same for people.

Trees
Dogs and Cats, even Squirrels and Mice, but not yet lice, though I suppose they have a role.
Books and reading them
Poetry or poetic sense, the way words work as sounds and pictures and fragments of ideas
Light and Shadow
Color
People in their complexity. Glad for the complexity.
Garlic and Chile Peppers
the Cave Paintings at Lascaux
Music and its associate, Dance
Breathing, not just being alive, which is good, but how delicious breathing can be
Love of various kinds
the glory of the Sky

Those weren't in any kind of order.
