Context:
The poem starts conventionally with the woman following "like a lamb" into the man's house "as smoky as a dive", as if a seedy atmosphere is set for the innocent lamb to be slaughtered.

A "dive" is typically a bar that caters to lower end clientle. These places are typically "smoky" with cigarette smoke.
