Extravagant: Showy, displayed in an obvious manner
Reckless: Without regard to others
Deadly needs no explanation

"But they might also decide that this was the period in which US military power was continuously on display without regard for the impact on others in terms of loss of life or the effect on world politics " just before it began to wane."
