"This album is a masterpiece of understatement."

What kind of masterpiece is it?
I don't really understand what "understatement " means here.

A masterpiece of understatement. The artist attempted, very successfully, to produce a piece of work that is understated, that is, it avoids obvious emphasis and embellishment.
