"I made it my job to get it on tape" means,

A:I tried hard to get it on tape.
or
B:I succeeded in getting it on tape.

which is it?

Neither of your two choices is a completely true answer, really. It definitely means "I took responsibility for the task of getting it on tape", and depending on context could also imply "and made sure that it was done".
