How many times a week is it okay to hit the gym?

Whew, depends on so many things. Your physical condition and what you DO at the gym are probably the biggest ones.

Going five times a week (every weekday) is pretty standard. I go four times a week now and am thinking of adding a fifth. I do different things each day. (Weight routine #1, intervals on treadmill, weight routine #2, distance running.)

I do 3x/week for 1 hr. at a time which is what I can fit in without totally destroying the rest of my schedule. For me, that works, but for you it might be too much or too little.

Like soz said, it depends on a number of factors. You do need to get some rest time, though. I would say that 7x/week is probably excessive.
