new dog is aggressive

I have adopted an older male dog from my local humane society. He is a very sweet and loving dog and plays well with my other dogs. The problem is that when he is next to me which is most of the time he gets aggressive when my other dogs get close to me. He starts growling at them if they try to come up to me. What can I do to fix this problem?
