@OmSigDAVID,
Maybe some one of us should dig up the entire cast. Sidney Portier, I believe. Several others who became quite famous later on.

@Ceili,
I remember a tv series centered around a waitress named Alice. Worked at Mel's diner? She's everywhere.

@roger,
Glen Ford had the lead in Blackboard Jungle but I forget who played his wife. Vic Morrow was the bad kid, Sidney Poitier the good kid. It was Poitier's first major role, I believe.

@Nevermind,
if anything the alice in wonderland books are about change, carroll seems more worried that his small friend was going to become a women and lose her innocence

there are some nice death references, one of my favourites is this exchange between humpty dumpty and alice

'In that case we start fresh,' said Humpty Dumpty, 'and it's my turn
to choose a subject--' ('He talks about it just as if it was a game!'
thought Alice.) 'So here's a question for you. How old did you say you
were?'

Alice made a short calculation, and said 'Seven years and six months.'

'Wrong!' Humpty Dumpty exclaimed triumphantly. 'You never said a word
like it!'

'I though you meant "How old ARE you?"' Alice explained.

'If I'd meant that, I'd have said it,' said Humpty Dumpty.

Alice didn't want to begin another argument, so she said nothing.

'Seven years and six months!' Humpty Dumpty repeated thoughtfully. 'An
uncomfortable sort of age. Now if you'd asked MY advice, I'd have said
"Leave off at seven"--but it's too late now.'

'I never ask advice about growing,' Alice said indignantly.

'Too proud?' the other inquired.

Alice felt even more indignant at this suggestion. 'I mean,' she said,
'that one can't help growing older.'

'ONE can't, perhaps,' said Humpty Dumpty, 'but TWO can. With proper
assistance, you might have left off at seven.'

i suggest you read martin gardner's the annotated alice

@Setanta,
Re: Smokie.
Actually until last night I had no idea who they were, in fact I hadn't heard the name before, I think they are the proud purveyors of a one hit wonder only this song never made the charts, for obvious reasons. It was a huge university pub audience participation sing-a-long song.

@OmSigDAVID,
How about Teacher's Pet Clark Gable and Doris Day. Never saw the movie only magazine write ups. Was the song 'How much is that doggie in the window?' from the movie? Where did song 'Que Sera Sera Whatever will be will be be' come from?

Now there I can help you. Doris Day sang that in Alfred Hitchcock's remake of his own "The Lady Vanishes." Jimmy Stewart was the hapless husband looking for his missing wife.

@Merry Andrew,
Thanks but what about 'doggie in the window'?

I was reading about the '100 great military leaders' and just found out that Agrippa was a school mate of Augustus Caesar and given Palestine so
Herod Aggripa was his descendant. Did King Herod convert to Judaism?

@Merry Andrew,
There seems to be a lot of songs from movies and when I watch some of the old DVDs on sale I am surprised to find where the songs originated.

@talk72000,
"How Much is that Doggie in the Window" was a big hit for, I believe, Patti Page, not Doris Day. Don't know whether than came from a movie or not.

Herod was brought up in the Jewish religion although he was not ethnically a Jew. He was also extrememly unpopular among the Jews over whom he ruled. Archeologists today are finding that his tomb has been viciously vandalized, apparently not by grave-robbers but by people simply wishing to show their disrespect.

@Ceili,
Wow - I didn't know. When driving a different car than usual or a rental, I always stick my head out to see if I can see it on the driver's side. If I don't see then I figure it is on the passenager side.

@Rockhead,
She must have been - taking care of those spoiled Brady kids and living in a house where the mom did nothing. And the dad was actually "gay". To top it off Sam never did marry her.

And Alice from that Alice diner show.

All Alice's are drug addicts.
