@Region Philbis,
C'mon, RP, admit it, it was a beautiful day today at Fenway--sunshine and smiles and a lovely celebration of the end of a great career in baseball. The Red Sox outdid themselves saluting Jeter, in recognition of the outstanding player and sportsman he has always been, and, for once, it was wonderful to see rivalry set aside in favor of respect and admiration. It was an uplifting way to end an unrewarding season for both teams, and a terrific send-off for Jeter.

One final tribute in NYC was given to Jeter tonight--the Empire State Building was lit up in Yankee pinstripes with a scrolling 2 at the bottom of the antenna.

i missed the game, but yeah...

he's a first-ballot HOF'er.
would be shocking if he isn't the first one to get in unanimously...

Last night's one game playoff between KC and Oakland was high drama.
But when the A's put Gomes in left field in the 11th it was trouble for the outfield.
Moments later a triple was misplayed and the Royals had their comeback started.

And so it was that the Pirates exited the playing field in a trouncing which defies description! (I'd been hoping they go a little further into the post season)

@Region Philbis,
It was exciting for us! I watched parts of it during the game, but watched the last inning because it was so close. Yea, seems a bit strange; Ishikawa for the Giants and Wong for the Cardinals.

@Region Philbis,
I predict that this will be the LEAST WATCHED series since TV was coupled with sports

I don't know about you but about the time the Giants got their lead-off hitter on base it didn't look good to me for Shields and the Royals.

It was a tragic game (at least if one is a Royals fan or at all interested in baseball) I finally realized it was going to be a loss and switched back to watching hockey.

You know what they say about winning the first game of the world series.

@Ragman,
What they say is that when the home team wins the first game, their chance of winning the pennant is higher. Since the Royals lost the first game.....

@firefly,
I was up there on the 102d floor on September 27th, and it was a nice, clear, sunny day.

My picture from the 102d floor of the Empire State Building.

That triangular building in the middle is the Flatiron Building; it was at one time the tallest building in NYC.
