Rays awake from their swoon courtesy of former Royal Meyers.

What was the thinking behind putting Koji in with a 4-run lead in Friday's game?

Did they just want to rub the Yankees' faces in how hopeless this year has become for them?

Apologists for everything Red Sock, step up to the plate! Very Happy

@Kolyo,
You gotta keep a reliever well-oiled. Feasting on Yankees is never a bad idea.

@Ragman,

a) he didn't pitch on thursday
2) we're learning that no lead is safe with them, hence the closer in a non-save sitchyation...

@Region Philbis,
As unappealing as it is to me, I'm appalled about how well A-Rod is hitting.

@Region Philbis,
It'd not surprise me if he is STILL taking PEDs.

Speaking of Sox-Ghosts
I had a feeling Francona was back. All of a sudden the Indians are poised to take a wild card spot

with their 1-0 win over the tigers tonight, KC clinched the season series with them.

I never woulda believed we could best them over a years time.

now if we could just stop the indians...

(KC and the rays have the same run differential right now. +36)

@Region Philbis,
Red Sawx put a dent on him with that pitcher's duel masterpiece last week. Hexed 'em, they did!

@Sturgis,
one of my dearest friends is a yankee aficionado, so I try hard not to denigrate them unnecessarily...

it must be hard to spend that much to almost make the playoffs.

KC is going to finish ahead of the yankees for 1/3 the price.

and we have a bright future with a viable farm system full of almost ready kids.

and no Alex Rodfuckus...

I'm glad Mariano is getting the respectful exit he's earned. in spite of all the other distractions.

NY has a lot of decisions to make in the off season.

is Jeter their DH next year?

@Rockhead,
I thinks it's still too soon to say what next season will bring us. Jeter is going to need to fully recuperate and make sure he's ready the next time he heads onto the field. Went back a little too fast, wasn't fully strengthened yet, even though technically healed, then put himself fully in and...well, we saw the result.
Hoping that at this point, the Pirates can capture the pennant for the NL and maybe the series. It's been a while. My Yankees are essentially out for now, barring some twist of epic proportions...which I honestly don't want to happen to Baltimore or Tampa. Figuring Boston likely'll get the pennant and head to the series. Not sure what'll happen then, need to see who the matchup will be.

@Sturgis,
I'm not calling the royals dead yet, but they need to sweep cleveland to have a chance...

I think Jeter is too old to be the everyday shortstop.

really...

@panzade,
KC is pounding the injuns.

and tomorrow night stacks up as interesting.

a new prospect with triple a digit fastball...

"CBS Sports’ Danny Knobler reports that Royals will call up prospect right-hander Yordano Ventura to start tomorrow night against the Indians. He’ll pitch in place of Danny Duffy, who was diagnosed with a “very mild flexor strain” following an MRI.

Ventura, 22, posted a 3.14 ERA and 155/53 K/BB ratio over 134 2/3 innings this season between Double-A Northwest Arkansas and Triple-A Omaha. While he’s listed at just 5-foot-11 and 180 pounds, he’s capable of hitting 100 mph with his fastball..."

ought to be worth a look...

@Rockhead,
The media bias against KC precludes me watching a Royals game. But I'm gonna follow his outing
