what is the difference between " the room is too big" as opposed to "the room is very big"

Too big = bigger than necessary, possible or something that makes its size larger than desirable.

Very big = just means very big.


Examples:

That hamburger is very big! It's a good thing too, because I'm hungry!

vs.

That hamburger is too big. I can't eat it all.

Just add a little mustard and one can eat the entire hamburger.
