The intention with which you wanted to read my article in Science is that you were (or are) greedy on the sensitive personal information attached to the article. No that you were eager to learn knowledge about science so as to widen your horizon. Am I on the right track?

Yes, and the rest of the passage is such so as to require a certain widening.
