My observation, from reading Mankoff forever (I am sort of in love with him, so useless, let me list the ways, not least that he is nicely married) is that the New Yorker likes fairly taut sentences. Not always, as there have been some toons recently with slightly more blabber. As a group, though, we babble, even some of our funniest ones.
We have failures to edit, in my take re our weaknesses.
