@mac11,
Mac I have lived in Hawaii for about 10 years and I am currently refered to as a local heole. (heole is pidgeon for stranger).

So I imagin that you certainly qualify to be a local Texan.

Dannon and I qualified in the same ejection seat trainer. That was the second and last time I sat in a Martin/Baker ejection seat, too. Thus, Dannon has lots more experience than I. He never mentioned if he had to pull the trigger since, so far as I know.

@roger,
Serious Roger. I got in touch with Dannon, I was hoping he could come, but he said it was too far. He lives near Texarkana.

MA and I have our fingers crossed that he might change his mind. He has wonderful stories. He was raised on the railroad.

@Sglass,
Sglass, That's really a very good price for r/t.

I'm not a pilot; we worked on nuclear weapons in the air force. My brother-in-law, Jim, was a pilot in Vietnam, and was also information officer for the Pacific when they were stationed in Hawaii; we did our share of trips to Hawaii back then. He was also the base commander for the air force contingent at Fort Ord when it was still active some decades ago, but resigned from the air force. They coordinated the transportation for the army.

I am going to be the keynote speaker.

I am going to be introducing everyone to the wonderful worlds of Mary Kaye Amway, and Tupperware.

Reminder to all, I take all major credit cards, and cash.

@OmSigDAVID,
The so-called "conventions" are very casual affairs that includes some get-togethers for meals, drinks and touring the sites. No real speakers; just chat and more chat with people you've communicated with over the years on a2k. Except this time, you get to do it face-to-face.

Many people wonder about getting along in person when there are so much disagreements on the threads on a2k; but that all changes and everybody becomes an angel. Seriously, I've not had a bad experience meeting people I've disagreed with on a2k.

None of the a2k gatherings all over the US and Europe has ever been determined to be a bad experience; amazing when considered from the fact that we have all these different personality types with varying backgrounds, beliefs and experiences. I've been to two in London, one in Lippstadt, two in Austin, two in Chicago, one in Hawaii, and three in San Francisco.

You'all come and join us, you hear!

David,

gatherings are essentially just a time to sit down, have a few beers, dinner and chat with people you have been posting with for a while like CI said.
They are not planned, they are not structured.. just a bunch of people you have a few things in common with..

they are quite lovely .
attend if you can Surprised)

@shewolfnm,
Thank u; will SPARTA put in an appearance ?
(He shoud be our official A2K Mascot.
Does he get along well with hamsters ?)

I 'm not sure yet.

I attended an Abuzz convention at a restaurant on 46th St in 2002.
It was fun, but the bad part about it was that
we did not have Chai as our Keynote Speaker.

I'm looking forward to meeting you CI, shewolf has told me some very nice things about you.

if sglass hasn't been to Austin in several decades, she's going to in for some major culture shock.

mac, with houston's more humid than austin. may be a break for you.

Edgar, I'd enjoy listening to your stories.

realjohnboy...I don't know you well, but look foward to meeting you.

september....the most hellish month of the year. It should be delightful. Don't mind me, I'm just not one for the heat. I love winter.

David, yes, do come....

come on, where is everyone else?

Cicerone Imposter has the best record for getting A2K posters to meet each other. I have met CI twice.

I would love to be at the Austin gathering, but I do not think I will be able to attend.

@chai2,
Those bat flights in Austin is an amazing experience to see, and there's no belittling of that, but Bali really has very big bats that's several feet across in size - some on display in the bazaar, and others hanging from trees.

@Sglass,
I'm dumb about Austin, but I've got a whole batch of new sites to check hotels (etc) at - will nose around just because I enjoy that. As in I can be addicted - just spent the better part of a couple of days looking up possibilities in Rome and cutting them down to most likely, even though I've no plans to make that trip in any near future.

Obviously, local info better. But I'll nose around anyway. Or I may just end up giving some links for searching diff areas.
