Obama is essentially interested in effectively extending Medicare to everyone. This would be a wonderful result.

Presently, the health insurance companies are parasites, really contributing nothing to actual health care. Instead, in return for huge compensation, they serve as middlemen, i.e., gatekeepers between the patient and the health care provider.

@Advocate,

Bull ****!

Obama's interest in health care in the US is all about power and control over US citizens.

I know. And again my question: you believe that the current US system is better than any other, especially the European systems (so-called "socialised health care").

@Walter Hinteler,

Once again... my answer is that I don't care about about what other countries are doing.

I do care about denying Obama's attempts to gain additional power and control over US citizens.

He must be stopped.

@H2O MAN,
Okay, so just to make sure we're clear on this: You would oppose the creation of a Medicare-for-all system even if it provided better health care for the money? Because your overriding concern is to curb the power of the federal government?

For those of you having difficulty understanding... let me say it a little slower...

Obama and the left don't give a **** about how healthy or unhealthy the dumbmasses are.
All they care about is creating a vehicle that will give them the power and control over the dumbmasses.

Obama's plan has nothing to do with providing better health care!

@H2O MAN,
H2O- Can you shake off this ADD you're suffering from for a moment and join the debate?
I mean Thomas is WILLING you to address the points being made on this thread!

...then why on earth even comment on this thread...it's(this thread) about the fact that health care in the US is way below the standard of other modern countries at a much higher cost.

If you look at the WHO rankings, which I believe are pretty credible, you'll see that our ranking is 37th out of 190 countries rated.
37th! just a step ahead of....CUBA!

Our total expenditure as a percentage of Gross Domestic Product is 15.2% ...second highest in the world whereas Cuba's is 7.6% which ranks 55th in the world

...our expenditure per person is the highest in the world and yet we rank 72nd in level of health.

If you're satisfied with our health care system...good for you...you must have a great health plan and no co-pays.

Can you raise yourself out of this intellectual torpor and actually give us a reason why your opinion should count for something in this thread?

I'm honestly trying to understand your POV

What sort of power is it that he's trying to gain over us, do you think? Maybe he'll detain us as material witnesses indefinitely without trial? Or spy on us without a warrant?

@panzade,

Your inability to grasp what Obama and the left are really attempting to accomplish with socialized health care makes any debate meaningless.

You have an opportunity here to back up your assertions with an argument of facts or even opinion. You don't take it. Sniff... what's that I smell? It has a hint of broccoli... I got it. Fear. You are scared out of your pants.

I disagree....your inability to grasp the manner in which A2Kers debate makes any debate(with you) meaningless.

Which is sad because I know you have a point of view you firmly believe in and I just can't get you to explain why you feel that way.

and it's kinda immature and even silly to vote down all who express dissent to ones point of view.

I'd like to get this thread back on track. I mean I have enjoyed the conversation so far and I like the participation, but lets remember what it's about.

I fear that the day that the government says people without health care insurance will be covered by a government policy will just happen to be the exact same day my current employer will decide to longer offer health care insurance. Coincidence?

That is one of the prime reasons I am opposed to any form of government sanctioned health care insurance and why I believe that instead, the government should instead invest the money into creating health care facilities open to the indigent, poor, or whomever else would wish to visit their facilities. Imagine what one trillion dollars can actually buy and have material goods and services to show for it. 1,000 billion dollars... Instead, we will have little pieces of paper that transfer other pieces of paper from one hand to another while at the same time fixing absolutely no issues in American health care.

Government issued insurance is not an answer to the problems we face. Government issued medical services is.

Theoretically, this will lead to higher paychecks for you, as the burden of subsidizing your health care is lifted from the business.

We spend several trillions on health care already as a nation. The money being discussed to fund this plan will not necessarily be added on top of the money currently spent, but instead shift large portions of it from a for-profit situation to a non-profit one.

Nope. And it isn't as if your party would support your view anyway; they would demonize it to the ends of the earth.
