Mikey- Do my eyes deceive me? I see that you have gotten your favorite potable back again. This one looks a bit more clear than the one that you had before!

Hebba, click the Profile link near the top of the site, then go down to the bottom of that page where it says 'Link to off-site Avatar'. Paste the following URL in that textbox:

Code:http://members.lycos.co.uk/cravendekere/givesthemback/503f6a643dc6897294a56.jpg

If you got it right, after clicking Submit your old Avatar should be once again good as new.

Oh, thank you, Craven.... for saving my Avatar!!

I was able to link to a 'thumbnail' at an MSN Community site.

But, my little dove's thumbnail has a dark background, so it just wasn't the same.....

I found my little dove in your list......

Thank you!!!!

The thumbnails from MSN work but the full size ones don't (the thumbnail URLs are short and the full size urls are too long). That's why little k lost resolution etc.

If anyone wants to open a lycos account to upload avatars for others and give them the link to use it would help greatly.

I'll do this eventually (with a photo album feature etc but for now I'll have to pass the buck.

Then perhaps you can satisfy my curiosity--is that name related to the Latin word for bear, ursa?

Since my wife is called Ursula as well (short 'Ulla'),

yes, Setanta, it is.

The name goes back to Saint Ursula, legendary leader of 11 or 11,000 virgins reputedly martyred at Cologne by the Huns.
( In Jacobus de Voragine's 'Legenda Aurea' (1265-66; Golden Legend) Ursula is a British princess who went to Rome accompanied by 11,000 virgins and was killed with them by the Huns on the return from the pilgrimage.)

Setanta, yes, as Walter already answered. It is - more or less - the female bear.

I also love Saint Ursula and the 11,000 virgins. And guess what - the guy I lived with for 15 years was called Attila - as in the king of the Huns. He ditched me for a blonde who was 11 years younger than me. I should have guessed something was bound to happen in that relationship!

Walter, I like to call myself Urs. Nobody every called me Ulla - mostly Uschi which I hate!

I don' think, you can translate it - it's a kind of "soft phonetical diminuative".

My niece has a black tomcat she named Attila the Hun. When she decided to have him neutered and de-clawed, I asked how the heck she figgered a "scourge of the gods" could be so ill equipped for rapine and raping?

But alas, she had her way, and alack, poor "Attila the Nun" ain't got a clue what he's missin'.
