Is your personality toxic enough to make you physically ill?
New Haven- Interesting idea, but could you clarify what you mean by "toxic personality"?
Great article New Haven- I got the quiz all correct. I once had a boss who had a classic borderline personality. To her, either you were the greatest thing since sliced bread, or the scum of the earth. And her opinion of you would change from one moment to the next.
I don't know if her personality made HER sick, but it certainly sickened me. In those years I did not know as much about borderlines as I do today. As a result, I was constantly anxious about what her latest mood would be. I felt that I was on a tightrope all the time, and could fall off any minute.
Even when I advanced in the organization, and she was no longer my boss, just her presence caused me to make myself uneasy. I remember when I left my job to move South, one of my greatest joys was the knowledge that I would NEVER, EVER have to see that woman again for the rest of my life!
Got 'em all right, too. Have some first-hand knowledge of a Narcissistic Personality, myself.
Interesting quiz. I got 'em right, too, and I no longer work with other folks because of all of the above.

The Great Escape!
Gee, I did very poorly on the quiz. What does this say about me?!?!?
missed the first two q's.
What does it mean?
You are blissfully happy not knowing the misery others around you are causing. You are truly above all pettiness and others call being around you a blessing.
One thing about my type of work is that your bosses
tend to get changed on you very frequently....so if
you have a really awful one, chances are he/she
won't be around for long anyway. Pharmacy district
managers are usually people with some type of
personality disorders, because "healthy" people
would refuse to do the job, because of the kind of
behaviour the job entails. Putting people down, &
giving them unfair evaluations - to avoid giving them
a raise? Changing the rules on people in the middle
of the game? I DID have some trouble adjusting
to working around, with persons who had obvious
personality disorders - but I personally got a lot of
help in how to deal with this kind of work problem
from a book called The Dance Of Anger, by Harriet
Lerner. Great book. And I never let a boss take
advantage of me, intimidate me, try to force me
to come to work when I was desperately ill, or
give me an unfair evaluation after reading and
studying the book for awhile. Needless to say, it
also did same for difficulties with coworkers. Boy
oh boy, did it ever help me! I can not recommend it
to you enough! I became a lion, after being a
mouse. What great fun THAT is, you must give it
a read.
I certainly hope that my library has that book. Looks like a good read!
Without having checked out the link (I'm so lazy) I can tell you that I've known some toxic people... Not so much physically toxic, but emotionally toxic. Phoenix, I think I've had that boss too, and according to my co-workers, she was an improvement over the previous.
Family stuff, my sister-in-law has worked herself into a corner, so that all she can do is stew in her own foul juices... can't be too healthy. No details, the wife might come along.
But the Toxic Personality reminds me of the classic definition fo a negative personality. A Negative Personality is a person who can walk into a crowded room and make you wonder who left.
SealPoet: Hahahahaha!
So true, and sad.
There's probably been a day or two that I was that person. <sigh>
