Dear Sir,
Are the following sentences correct?
2008 saw a snowstorm in many parts of China.
Last year saw the great Sichuan Earthquake.
This year has seen Swine Flu.
Last year saw the first Chinese space walk in space.
2008 saw the 29th Olympic Games in Beijing.

Or should we use words like TAKING PLACE, or HAPPENING in the above sentences?
Thank you.

The English in its self is sound and coherent, but due to the repetition of terms it seems rather bland and uninteresting when listed. It would be wise to vary the types of verbs you use to enhance the aesthetic nature of the language you use.

Where else?

As one hardly can walk in space, extra vehicular activity (EVA) are more appropriated terms.
