The above quotation is based on Robert Burns' line "The best laid schemes o' Mice an' Men, Gang aft agley"

Please help me paraphrase it.

@chai2,
Quote:
But Mousie, thou are no thy-lane,
In proving foresight may be vain:
The best laid schemes o' Mice an' Men,
Gang aft agley,
An' lea'e us nought but grief an' pain,
For promis'd joy!

This is one of the stanzas from Robert Burn's "To a Mouse"

@chai2,
Of Mice and Men is John Steinbeck's classic novel, which is considered by many critics to be his best work, and which was made into a motion picture.
