My boyfriend's body twitches uncontrollably during sleep. Sometimes, it's mild and it'll be gentle (it affects his whooole body) but other times it'll be so bad, it wakes us both up out of a sound sleep. It only happens when he's about to fall asleep & is actually asleep. I googled & "askd" & yahoo'd..so far, I've gotten Tourette's, Lou Gehrig's & RLS to diet deficiency & sleep disorder..I'm very confused...
@ooxkaraxoo1,
Here are some valuable information to myoclonus (muscle twitching)

@ooxkaraxoo1,
The easy thing to try is to back off stimulates after dinner. No caffeine or heavy sugar drinks. I find that if I drink a coke after around 7:00 I have muscle twitches.
Google REM sleep stages:
Here's part of the discussion -
Stage 5, REM
REM sleep is distinguishable from NREM sleep by changes in physiological states, including its characteristic rapid eye movements. However, polysomnograms show wave patterns in REM to be similar to Stage 1 sleep. In normal sleep (in people without disorders of sleep-wake patterns or REM behavior disorder), heart rate and respiration speed up and become erratic, while the face, fingers, and legs may twitch. Intense dreaming occurs during REM sleep as a result of heightened cerebral activity, but paralysis occurs simultaneously in the major voluntary muscle groups, including the submental muscles (muscles of the chin and neck).
@sullyfish6,
Interesting, thanks.
(I woke up today having trouble calling the police (not, apparently at 911) after my just purchased thunderbird convertible, the 1955 kind, was stolen from behind my back after I had set it on the sofa in the laundramat.. and I woke up very irritated, thinking of my friends calling me from a bicycle shop).
So, not to jest re boyfriend's sleep/twitching. This is all fascinating and I can see it as part of the sleep cycle.
That's my guess. He's having a dream.
yea, thats what i thought too but he says he's not...it just gets annoying at times, you're both relaxed, drifting off to a good sleep & then he twitches & scares the hell out of me and there goes that lol he asked his dr. & he referred him to a sleep specialist =] ill be sure to tell him to inquire about everything you guys have suggested! thank you so much!
@ooxkaraxoo1,
Good, I'm glad he has a doctor's referral to a sleep specialist.
