Our 5 year old Great Pyrenees loves to go for a walk but as soon as it is time to start back home, he stops and will not move. Treats, tugging on the leash, walking another mile does not help.
we had a large dog (mastiff/shepherd mix) who did the same thing, except he did it at the foot of the porch,
and only when the weather was nice...
i'm not sure why your dog does that.
is he in good health?

@grtpyrns,
Is this when he decides that it is time to go home, or when you somehow indicate to him that it is time to go home?

@grtpyrns,
has this just started now ?
was the dog ever trained to obey any commands or can the dog generally do what pleases him ?
you'll have to tell us just a little bit more ..
and welcome to a2k !

@grtpyrns,
My question is - what h*ll is going at home that this dog does not want to be a part of?
How about walking in a big circle so there's no turning around spot?

@Linkat,
Awww...he just likes walking - big dog wants to get out and move! I have a happy walker too...but, he is just not stubborn like that, when we get to the drive way to go up he generally just tries to keep walking straight...but I just say his name and tug and he comes. Have no clue what you can do - sorry to be of no help...good luck!
i wonder where grtpyrms has been dragged to by now ?
if the dog cut post on a2k he might ask : "my mistress takes me for a hundred foot walk and wants to return to the house - please advise on how i can entice her to keep walking a little longer " .
