Hurray for Socialism!

A random monologue in my gym this morning, fairly typical of many other conversations I'm hearing over the last few weeks. I can't resist the temptation to cast this one into free form poetry. Prose just doesn't give it the proper sense of tragedy.

Gym Dude intoned, rather than wrote:
Man I tell you Obama
Is giving us
Socialism all the way

Printing money and spending it on
Bridges, roads, and libraries,
Giving health insurance to
Everyone, just everyone
Unemployment benefits too, he's extending them, no kidding;

And mark my words, he will
Take over the banks.
Next thing he'll let students go to college on
taxpayer dollars!
This is France, man, this is *******
France.

To which I say: You have a problem with that? Have you ever been to France? Or to any EU country for that matter?

Two cheers for socialism!

If he can rant about socialism, he's not exercising hard enough.

@dlowan,
Good point, comrade! After the revolution, he'll be the first to have his elliptical pre-set to "ultra-intense cardio".

Nah, I just need a soft touch now that I'm becoming a revolutionary hero. Biographers just love those soft-touchy, fine-artsy, intellectual notes in alpha-machos such as myself.

Make fun if you like, but since when has government been in the bridges-and-roads business? Next thing you know we'll be paying for a standing army, too.

Later, roger. I have to finish my top-secret mission of subverting core American values first.

Quote:
National and Public Holidays in Japan
The Japanese have a reputation, deservedly so, for not having many vacations. Many workers simply do not take their allotted vacation time for fear of losing their jobs. However, in recent years the government has made an effort to increase the number of National Holidays, and these now number fifteen. In the list below, the National Holidays are marked *. The rule is that if a holiday falls on a Sunday, then the following Monday is taken off.

For the visitor and traveler, there are 3 holiday periods that that will have an impact on travel plans. During these three periods, prices tend to increase, sometimes dramatically, and flights, trains, and buses will need to be booked well in advance. The first is the New Year period, the second, Golden Week in April/May, and the third, O-Bon in August.

in addition there are "local holidays" !

tried to list all the holidays - would have filled several pages !

@hamburger,
All I really know about riots I picked up in the reports from nimh & Stasia in Hungary. I forgot to ask if they were scared or just partying.
