Respected,

I would like you to clarify me.

Where and how can we use "had to ".

For Ex., We had to kill our patients

(or)

A R Rahman had to overcome many hurdles on his path.

what does it mean?

what is the alternative rather than 'Had to'

I suppose this sentence structure is correct?

It would be better if you could give some some examples in this regard.

Please correct me If i am wrong, I appreciate your help.

Thanks in Advance.

Regards

Madhu

"Had to" means to be obliged, or to be required to do something. As an example: "He had to file his tax return, because the deadline was approaching." That means that he was obliged to, he was required to file his tax return because the law sets a deadline, a last date by which this may be done. Another example might be: "She had to walk all the way home, because when her purse was stolen, she had no money for the bus." In that case, she is obliged to walk because she cannot pay the fare for the bus--all of her money was in her purse, and it was stolen. That meant walking was the only way she could get home. She "had to" walk.
