It was nice to get back to my 'normal' routine at the local coffee shop and reading my newspaper. I love the US$1 cup of coffee compared to what I had to pay in Europe. My last cup of coffee at Heathrow in London cost US$5.00. I'll have to add up what my 15 days in Europe costs, then determine whether I can travel any more. LOL

After looking at the pix from the New York trip last night, I was inspired to (sorta) recreate my 7A lunch.

PB and banana stuffed sandwich toasted in the grill.

mmmmmmmmm

(I didn't go to the trouble of making raspberry butter, but maybe next time)

A beer stein with half a cup of caramel coffee, topped up with skim chocolate milk.

mmmmmmmmmmm

hamburgers are in town for their anniversary.
they were at the Marche having breakfast when they called to arrange a meeting.
i was going to load the dogs into the car and go pick the hamburgers up downtown.
no time for breakfast here first.

asked hamburger to get me an order of rosti to go.
sausage?
no.
bacon?
no.
toast?
no.
just rosti?
yes, please.
are you sure no bacon?
no bacon.
no breads?
no, thank you.
are you sure?
o.k., I'll have a side of bacon.
great! how about some breads?
no. really. rosti and bacon is great.
o.k.

load the dogs, drive downtown, pick up the hamburgers.

hamburger brought me a 'big breakfast'.
"it was cheaper than rosti and bacon"

<sigh>

went to the beach for a nice walk with the hamburgers and the dogs.
sat at a picnic table and had a nice breakfast of cold rosti, bacon and sausage. Found a half bottle of grapefruit soda in the car to wash it down with.

a wonderfully good breakfast.

leftover rosti and sausages on a bun left from last weekend's take-away will be lunch

rosti are shredded cooked potatoes cooked in a frying pan over low heat - in a formed cake - flipped, not stirred

gorgeous pic here - but it comes up waaaaay too big

http://www.obrist.ch/FR/Gastro-Suisse/B-Rosti.jpg

~~~~~~~~~~
Rosti recipe
ingredients
1 lb (450 g) potatoes, scrubbed, half-boiled and grated/shredded
1 onion, skinned and grated
3 tbsp (60 ml) chopped fresh parsley
1.25 ml (1/4 tsp) grated nutmeg
salt and pepper, to taste
1 tbsp (15 ml) oil
method
1. Thoroughly mix together the potatoes, onion, parsley, nutmeg and seasoning.
2. Heat the oil in a large non-stick frying pan and add the potato mixture, patting it down to form a firm cake.
3. Cook very gently for about 15 minutes on each side until firm and golden. If the Rosti breaks up a bit when you turn it don't worry, as it is easy to pat back into shape with a wooden spoon. Remove from the pan and serve immediately.
serves 4
There are variants with cheese, grated carrot, sweet potato ...
Thanks Ma'am,
I can't believe I've never heard it. I am a potato fiend.
Off to the kitchen for a first attempt.
Never heard of rosti but it sounds wonderful... hash browns done proper!
I had a piece of pork rib I killed in a pan and some toast. Most days I eat only veggies, but once in a while a meal is just meat.
