@mysteryman,
MM, we've butt heads often but your kindness to my daughter, Butrflynet, has shown me a different side of you that was not apparent to me until now. I like the person you've demonstrated and I've discovered. I always will respect people who learn more about themselves and the people with which they interact and modify their attitudes, even admitting it publically. You have earned my respect. I hope I've earned your respect.
I wonder if you've discovered that there are conservatives and then there are other conservatives. It depends on how one defines conservatism. There are many conservatives I respect and agree with on many issues. Then there are the others who think they are conservative but really are not. They have changed the meaning of conservatism. Instead, many are biggots, authoritians, and fanatics, both political and religious and insist in forcing people to agree with and live by their beliefs. I don't respect them and will not allow them to impose their life style on me.
I developed with a very strong sense of justice as a child, which has shaped my life. I've spent most of my life attempting to improve the lives of working class people as a volunteer and as an non-profit organization employee. As a result, I didn't make a lot of money, but I was effective in correcting wrongs, which was all the compensation I required.
I think you failed to recognize that liberals can be patriots and love their country enough to object when their leaders are wrong in policies and attitudes that harm the citizens. To not challenge them would be a failure of patriotism. I always have put the welfare of my country ahead of political party and wish everyone did. I despise those who put their Party first and their country last. They are not patriots, they are self-interested.
You didn't realize how strongly I respect our troops and posted lots of information about supporting them and advocating for their need while at war or after in their civilian status, and especially on recovering from their wounds. I get angry when civilian and military commanders don't do right by our troops. I will always continue to do so. I was married to two WWII veterans, one of which was a paratrooper and received the Croix de Guerre from France for his service in the Battle of the Bulge and his participation in the liberation of France and of the concentration camps. His experience remained with him all of his life and also informed me about troop experience.
In my opinion, love of country comes before love of dogma. What do you think?
