Are You Ready For Fantasy Baseball - 2009?

I see that during the night we got up to 14 players. That is the limit. I have started a new thread so we can get this one back to all baseball all the time (unless we think of some other stuff to talk about):

arrgh! I was 100% confident I had set my lineup for today. I was heartbroken to get home this afternoon to find he was on my bench. I feel like such an idiot.

Doh!!!

Which reminds me - and I've conversed with some on yahoo about this - whenever I add/dump a player or, since I'm freaked about it, even move players around, I recheck my lineup for the week. I've had set players go back to their original places many times, probably mostly with new player additions, but also maybe not. Paranoia strikes deep........ in the outfield.

I'm a numbers person at player changes, it's part of my fun. (I can no longer make fun of George about pitchers). I beat out even the Tubas on this. But all those changes wreak havoc.

Mark Buehrle is perfect (on your fantasy bench)

Mark Buehrle(notes) just finished off an absolute masterpiece, the 18th perfect game in major league history. It was an all-time performance, highlighted by one of the all-time catches. (Video). This was actually Buehrle's second career no-hitter; he's building a convincing Hall of Fame case.

But that's a subject for another day. Regardless of your baseball allegiance -- Cubs, Sox, fantasy, reality -- hopefully you're able to appreciate a true gem when you see one. The only baseball fans who might feel be feeling a bit conflicted right now are the thousands of fantasy owners staring at something like this...


That, without question, is the ugliest sight in fantasy sports: A perfect game, on your bench.

Buehrle is owned in virtually all leagues, but he was only 75 percent-started on Thursday. Many gamers are hurting right now. The benching wasn't exactly crazy -- the Rays are the third highest-scoring team in baseball, and Buehrle is only two starts removed from an eight-run, three-homer loss.

Those details don't matter now, though. If you benched Buehrle, it was an epic failure of sit/start decision-making. Please share your story in comments. We're here to provide comfort in what must be the darkest hour of your fantasy career.

Sure enough, my hound dog isn't talking to me this evening. She is royally p*ssed at me for inadvertently leaving Mark on the bench.
It cost me a couple of points in the Fantasy match-up with Mysteryman. But I will win the week, no doubt.
Still, according to Andy Behrens, only the 18th perfect game ever tossed and I am sad about not being a part of it.
Imagine how Mark Buehrle must have felt, after all the high-fives and butt-slapping, in the few moments before going to sleep: "I threw a perfect game."

Things will calm down a bit this week. But there will be changes in the standings.
1) Fbaezer will win his match by a narrow margin but will drop to #2 at .567;
2) Gargamel will romp and claim the #1 slot at .574;
3) George will stay at #3 with .554;
4) Tico will hold #4 with .536;
5) Pantalones will get whipped badly and will slip to #6 at .516;
6) McGentrix will have a big week and will climb to #5 with .533;
7) Johnboy will enjoy another big win but goes nowhere: #7 at .508;
8) Fox will hold onto #8 at .490;
9) Jespah will keep #9 with .485;
10) JPinMilw will take a dive to #12 at .459;
11) Osso will climb to #10 with .469;
12) Alex will be right behind in #11 with .469 also;
13) ElStud will stick at #13 with .454;
14) Mysteryman will remain at the bottom with .387.

The games between the Paws and the Puppies has been quite close and still is - there is opportunity here for Osso to slip in the rankings.

Anyone mind if I dance a little jig?

Johnboy's crystal ball turned in another commendable performance this week going 11/14 correct. For the first time though, the distance between first and last percentages widened a bit this week. Not sure if that denotes the general trend to expect from now to the finish, or if it is a fluke.

You guys better hope the Owls don't claw all the way to the top and get to pick the music.

I was 10/14 in the predicting thing. I had the Necks in 7th. McGentrix won his week by a stunning 17-0 score which messed up my picks for Tico, Pantalones, McGentrix and Johnboy in the 4-7 slots.

Ah, you're right. I did miss one. Well 30 lashes with something or other for giving you more credit than you deserved. Tsk tsk. I'll have to watch that in the future.
