You might have noticed that Mississippi was hit just as hard by Katrina and got over it pretty quickly; the republican governor and responsible government at the state level might have had something to do with that.

Then again the army corps of engineers once gave La. the money to redo the levees and what not around New Orleans. I'd guess they used the money for drugs, but that's just a guess....
