In the 1950s and 1960s, the achievement of full employment and an international trade boom created higher wages and standards of living; at the same time improved access to higher education seemed to allow some working-class people the oppurtunity to enter middle-class professions.

In the paragraph above, specially on the second part which/what is the subject and what is the main verb?
thank you for answering (in advance)

@pumpjockey,
pumpjockey, In the first sentence, the subject is achievement and the verb is created. In the second part, access is the subject follwed by the verb seemed(to allow is an infinitive and can be considered part of the verb phrase).

Letty is right

Improved access...seemed to allow....the opportunity. (sp)

The main verb, I would say, is allow.

Hi Letty. Isn't there a double subject joined by 'and'?

the achievement of full employment and an international trade boom created

@JTT,
Right, JTT. It is a compound subject.
