Here's what I've come up with so far:

A "dead man's hand" is Aces and Eights, which was the name of a 1936 movie.

Charlie Sheen was in a movie called 5 Aces.

One of the four Bobby Burns listed on IMDb was in a movie called The Wild Pair. Or do you mean Robert Burns, the poet?

Howard Keel played Gaylord Ravenal, a gambler, in Showboat. His character in Kismet was called The Poet.

Is any of this on the right track?

Sheen is 5 Aces
Bobby Burns Sixs and NINES
And Howard Keel played Wild Bill Hickok who was holding these cards when shot.
